VAGABOND MUSIC VIDEO - BEHIND THE SCENES

The video for Vagabond grew from a conversation I had with the band and Doing Life Records about the graphic beauty of the Paris students protest posters of the May 1968 demonstrations, spurred on by the unions demands for the rights of factory workers under the de Gaulle government.

We wanted to bring them to life to help express the meaning of the song. From there I remade them by hand, based on the original designs. And began to animate them, sometimes upto 40 posters for a few seconds of animation. Alongside these arresting images, I watched 100s of hours of news footage of the mass protests that took place globally in 1968, and selected minute fractions of film to animate. Finding those frames, printing each of them by hand, and then looping them to create the final animated effect. Thousands of individual images were made along with hundreds of posters. None have gone to waste though.
